FAIRCHILD’S 567th strategic missile squadron, which will be responsible for Atlas ICBM, when Spokane area sites are operational, will hold open house today to mark first anniversary as a missile unit, Families and special guests will pass through tight security, represented by Jesse D. Templeman.  VAST supply warehouse of missile squadron holds thousands of items, large and small, neatly cataloged and classified, needed in Atlas operation.

GLEAMING floors heighten eye appeal of hall in squadron’s quarters near missile assembly building.

LEARNING occupies every spare moment of the time of squadron personnel who wait the day when they will take over operational Atlas. Here, Lt, Col.  W. R. Christianson teaches class in a lecture room.

ATLAS sustainer engine in vertical position is checked by 567th’s S/Sgt. F. J. Shewbert in the missile assembly building which visitors will see.

ADJUSTMENT is made to sensitive equipment in spotlessly clean communications room, squadron’s nerve center by M/Sgt. J. J. Walsburg, technician.

CONTROL room ringed by V.I.P. offices and conference rooms lacks equipment to make them operational.

CLIMAX of today’s open house tour will be a visit to the usually super secret missile assembly building shown here occupied by two bright “birds.”
