'''FOOTBALL''' [Continued]

The Reardan Indians started the 1948 football season by winning their first game
since the 1946 football season. The Indians walloped Lakeland Village 19-6. The game
was played September 17, on the home field.

The following week, on September 24, the Reardan Indians faced the highly talented
Wilbur team for its first conference game. The first half was a hard fought battle.
Reardan scored the first touchdown and made the extra point to lead at half time 7-0.
Wilbur came back hard in the second half to tie up the score. The Indians held off
Wilbur's final attempts and the game ended in a 7-7 tie.

On October 1 Reardan traveled to Odessa to play a hard fought game but due to
tough breaks and not being used to playing under light, Odessa skimmed past us by a
score of 13-12.

Then a week later, October 7, Lind came here and played a good clean game but
couldn’t overcome the Indians. When the final gun sounded the score was 12-6 in favor
of the Indians.

On October’ 15 Davenport came here. Davenport was confident of victory and was
greatly surprised by Reardan’s tight defense and its fast passing and running attack.
Davenport scored first in the second half, but Reardan came back to tie up the ball
game 6-6 before the whistle sounded.

In the second meeting, at Lakeland Village on October 22, Reardan came from behind
in the second half to score a 25-14 victory over the Cowboys in a non-conference game.

Mead played host to the Indians on the 29 at another non-conference game. Reardan
lead at the half, 13-7, but Mead intercepted two of the Indians passes, and ran them
back for touchdowns to score a 21-13 victory.

To wind up the season Reardan played its last game at Ritzville. Reardan completely
outplayed Ritzville to score an easy 26-10 victory over the Broncos.

The Reardan Indians finished the season in second place in the Lincoln-Adams County
conference with 2 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties. Wilbur and Davenport tied for first with 3 wins
and 2 ties.

The Indians are going to miss the graduating senior football boys in the 1949 football
season. However the prospects for a winning team next season look good with a
return of eleven lettermen and fine looking reserves.
