Following suit in baseball as in basketball,
Reardan High's young athletes climaxed the
greatest year for sports in the history of the
school by making a clean sweep of its four
league games to win the Northern Division
Championship of the Bi-County.

The pay-off game came on Friday, May 12,
when Coach Leigh Steele's eager Indians had a
field day in bunting and base running against the Davenport Gorillas.
But what an uphill, see-saw battle it was!

Davenport, picking up three runs in the first inning, led Reardan, 4-2,
until the big fourth inning which saw the Indians score five times to go
out in front, 7-4. Davenport, enjoying a four-run s‘xth inning, tied up
the came, 8-8, only to see the home team come back with a sensational
bunting and base-running attack to tally three more times. Davenport
was thoroughly throttled in its last inning, and Reardan had the baseball
championship—and another trophy.

Schulz, with three singles, and Anyan, with two hits, led the R.H.S.
hitting parade. Bob Rogers, Atkinson, Owens, and Stuhlmiller each
contributed a hit to the attack.

On April 28, the Indians took undisputed possession of first place by
winning its crucial test against Almira. Leading, 6-0, the Indians faltered
but cut Almira's last-inning bid short to win in a thrilling contest. Anyan
and Owens, each getting two safe blows, Rogers, Atkinson, and Miller,
with one each, supplied the offensive punch.

A pitcher's duel saw Schulz best Creston's May, a southpaw, the

safeties. Reardan was forced to the eighth inning before winning.
