The play, “Love Is In The Air”, by Frank and Doris Hursley was presented on
December 3 and 4, under the direction of Mr. Lizee.

'''The Plot'''

LOVE IS IN THE AIR—and in more ways than one—around the troubled Truitts!
Gladys can’t maneuver Roscoe into proposing; Clarence can‘t even find out the name
of that new girl across the street; and Maggie, a thwarted thirteen finds that every boy
she tries to invite to the Girl Scout wiener roast mysteriously develops a toothache, Even
Gert, their good-natured, intuitive mother, can’t inviegle Husband Elmer into taking her
to see a revival of Blossom Time.

“The trouble with the Truitts,” sighs Gladys, “is that Daddy never does anything
romantic—like surprising Mother with flowers and candy, or whispering sweet nothings
in her ear.” “Daddy practically never wispers--he hollers!”’ interjects Clarence. And
Maggie sadly concludes it must be the “Truitt jinx.”

Needless to say, Elmer is astounded and hurt that his family would think so lightly
of his prowess; and he determinedly forges ahead in the fund-raising contest, being
conducted by his lodge, to build a recreation room at a nearby airbase. When it is
announced that the winner will be rewarded with a jet plane ride over Hope Springs,
well—Elmer suddenly finds himself well on the way toward becoming a “Man of Distinction.”

Soon, however, events transpire to make him wish he’d never heard of a jet plane.
And a nightmare, with its ghostly montage of warning voices, and an ill timed visit from
the “Lady Buffaloes,” singing a significant version of “Ghost Riders in the Sky,” add to
his panic. There are many more episodes—some mirthful, some poignant—before lovable,
generous old Gramps “comes thru” with the biggest surprise of the play.
