'''F.F. A. JUDGING TEAM''' [Continued]

On September 20, the judging team went to Ritzville to judge livestock at the
Adams County Fair, The team won first place over sixteen other teams, thus receiving
the honor of going to the livestock show at Portland. Gerald Brommer placed first in
individual contests and John Schultz fourth.

Twelve “Greenhands” were initiated into the Reardan Chapter on October 30.
These were the incoming Freshmen who were taking Agriculture.

The livestock judging team, with their instructor, Mr. Johnson, went to Portland,
Oregon, to judge at the Pacific International Livestock Exposition. The team won second
place honors, competing against 76 other teams. The team scored 688 points out
of a possible 800 points. In the sheep judging contest the Reardan team placed first.
Gerald Brommer was eighth high individual.

Mr. Johnson also took the crops judging team to Central Valley to compete in a
crops judging contest. Ed Brommer, Lane Dahlin, and Norman Clouse composed the
team, with Clifford Carstens as an alternate.

Twelve teams participated in this contest. Reardan placed sixth out of the twelve
teams.

The social event of the year was the F. F. A. Annual Harvest Ball. This was held on
the evening of November 29. This year marked the fifth time that this event was held.

During the second semester of the school year, the F. F. A. sponsored a series of
square dances. These dances were held one each month.

The F. F. A. sponsored several money making projects during the year. The boy's
sold T-shirts to both grade and high school students. They also sponsored the sale of
school belts, and collected scrap iron. The scrap iron was sold in Spokane. Several
boys took part in a tree pruning project.

John Schultz was the delegate to the State Future Farmers of America convention
which was held at Pullman, Washington, on April 15, 16, 17, 18.

The Junior Livestock Show was held May 5, 6, 7, and 8. The FFA boys taking steers
to the show were: Bob Stuhlmiller, Clifford Carstens, Roger Hein, Ed Brommer, Gerald
Brommer and John Schultz. Paul Carstens exhibited pigs. The judging teams also attended.

On May 22 one of our main attractions was held, a Barbecue at the Natatorium
Park in Spokane. The invited guests were: E. M. Webb and Mr. Oscar Loreen, Assistant
State Supervisors of Vocational Agriculture Education, Ernie Jorgensen of radio station
KXLY, Mr. Gladhart, of the Old Union Stockyards, and Norman Scott, Mead, the state
FFA Secretary.
