'''GIRLS LEAGUE''' [Continued]

This year the Girls’ League was completely reorganized. Instead of dividing the
group into three committees as in previous years, there were twenty-seven committees,
covering many interests and services.

By doing different jobs the girls can earn their points, which enable them to get a
pin. The points needed for each pin are:

30 points: First year pin
60 points: Second year pin
90 points Third year pin
120 points: Fourth year pin

During the months we had the following special entertainment:

September—Two girls from Spokane schools, one from Rogers; one from North
Central talked to us about the organization and activities of their Girls’ Leagues.

November—Mrs. Laning from the Y. M. C. A. in Spokane demonstrated weaving
and ceramics.

December—Pat Brown from United Air Lines described her work as an airline
hostess.

January—We played games and prizes were given.

February—Mrs. Jordan, personnel manager for Pacific Telephone Company, gave
a comprehensive talk on the vocational aspects of working for the telephone company.

March—Sergeant Stewart of the WAC and Lieutenant Smerstick of the Navy
pictured life in the service, listed requirements for entry, and opportunities for women
members of the armed services.

April—Nita Lowndes Frazier, author of MY LOVE IS A GYPSY and BY-LINE DENNIE,
related her experiences as a writer, her sources for plots, rejections of manuscripts, and
eventual success.

May—Election of officers.

New members were initiated into the Girls’ League on December 16. Dressed in
the costume of the gay nineties, they put on a style show for the rest of the members.

At Christmas the girls bought small toys and sent them to an orphanage.

The Girls’ League sold pep hats for $1.00 to the members of the high school.

Some of the girls undertook a new project this year. This was the making of dolls
and entering them in a doll contest sponsored by SEVENTEEN MAGAZINE.

On March 12, the Girls’ League sponsored a very successful St. Patrick’s Day
Dance. Mr. and Mrs. Scott Barr instructed us on modern dancing.

The Girls’ League members also did their share of the work for the school carnival.
The girls helped with the decorating and worked in the booths the night of the carnival.

At the end of the school year we concluded our Girls’ League activities with a picnic.
