'''GIRLS' LEAGUE'''

The first Girls’ League meeting of the year was held on September 13. Fifty-nine
members were enrolled.

The officers for the 1954-55 school year were as follow:

Treasurer: Marian Pryor
Student Council Rep: Loretta Durheim
Advisor: Miss Oberg

Besides the officers, these girls, two from each class, were elected to be on the
council:

Pat Hanning, Donna Collier Marianne Remmers, Joanne Pietz, Gwen Janett, Sally Baldwin,
Barbara Rutter, Sandra McCulloch

By doing different jobs the girls can earn their points, which enables them to get
a pin. The points needed for each pin are:

30 points: First year pin
60 points: Second year pin
90 points: Third year pin
120 points: Fourth year pin

During the months we had the following special activities at our meetings:

September—The officers of the Girls’ League were introduced to the freshmen
and other new members.

October—Elected two members from each class to be on the Girls’ League Council.

November—Jim Smith, a newspaper reporter from the Spokesman-Review, was
asked to come but was unable to so he sent his speech which was read by Lola Hoffman.

December—Sang Christmas carols.

January—Mrs. Buelah Swanson, a beauty operator, talked about styling and
caring for the hair.

February—Mrs. Lester Ahern showed us how to do ceramics work.

May—Mrs. Ray Stevenson told about her trip to England. We also elected officers.

The new members were initiated into the Girls’ League on October 4. By doing
stunts, they put on a very enjoyable entertainment for the other members.

At Thanksgiving we gave a basket of food to a needy family.

At Christmas the girls bought small toys and sent them to an orphanage.

The Girls’ League sponsored two dances this year. One was a Hobo Dance on
October 29, and the other was our annual St. Patricks Day Dance which was held on
March 11.

The Girls’ League members also did their share of the work for the school carnival.
Thee girls helped with the decorating and worked in the booths the night of the carnival.

The Girls’ League sponsored something new this year, namely, a Clash Day
(April 1]. Everyone in the school wore clothes that clashed.

This year a day, March 21, was set aside by the Girls’ League to start wearing
spring clothes.

At the end of the school year we concluded our Girls’ League activities with a
picnic at Comstock Park and a roller skating party at Cook’s Roller Skating Rink on
May 18.
