What greater or better gift can we offer the
Republic than to teach and instruct the youth?
The story is told of a famous artist who, after finishing his greatest work, was found weeping beside it. On being asked if he weren't satisfied, he replied, “I am satisfied and that is the trouble.”
He knew that being satisfied, he would never do better work; his ambition would wane; he would begin to slip, and the future would no longer be a period of increasing greatness as an artist.
The climb up the hill, the efforts to do, the struggle to accomplish, is what brings us to our greatest and most enduring satisfaction, without which life is worth little.
Let no one of you, whether senior or freshman, be satisfied with what you have accomplished but continue to: grow by:
‘Learning Something New Every Day’
‘Doing Something Better Every Day’
—Lewis W. McKay
I hope you have made this past year a successful one. If you have capitalized on the various opportunities offered in our school, I am sure that you have acquired experiences which will lead to a richer life.
I feel that we have succeeded in offering a well rounded program of activities. We realize that some phases of education are not attained from text books. If you will assume the attitude that school work is your job and take that positive attitude toward it, you will have no trouble in fitting into society after school days are over. The thoughts brought out in the following poem. I think are very worth while.
Learn to say kind things. Nobody ever resents them. Learn to stop grumbling. See some good in the world.
