FFA

The Reardan Future Farmer of America Chapter had a big year that started with the presentation of the rotating plaque for having been judged the best chapter in the district. The chapter also received the Silver Emblem in the state chapter contest for the first time, In other state competition the Master Chapter Award, Standard Award, and School Farm Shop Safety Award were received.

The highlight of the year was the State FFA Convention in March. Tom Schultz and Dick Manke became the third and fourth Reardan boys to receive the State Farmer Degree. The Chapter received the State Farm Safety Award and a check for $100 for the second time in three years. Harold Cox was the official delegate to the convention. John Humphrey was a special representative to this 25th annual state convention.

GENERAL

Robert Rux very ably represented Reardan in the district public speaking contest held here February 27 at the Parent-Teacher Association meeting. All of the chapter officers attended an officer training at the Carnation plant in Spokane. Walter Clouse was chairman of the secretaries and the other officers gave reports for their groups. The Greenhands received their pins at a ceremony here on October 7. The Chapter Farmers were initiated in a joint ceremony with Davenport at Davenport on November 16. The Annual Harvest Ball was sponsored again this year on October 28, Chapter members again worked hard on the high school carnival, which was held November 4. This year the Chapter decided to sponsor a Donkey Basketball Game as a money-making project. The game was played before a capacity crowd on Jan. 3, The FFA played the Lions Club. Marvin Willms and Dick Manke were the local winners in the Co-operative Quiz Contest which entitled them to attend the district quiz at Cheney.
