"OPENS LONG LAKE TUNNEL"

W. W. P. Diverts River to Build Power Plant Dam.

Water was turned into the big tunnel just completed at Long lake by the Washington Water Power company yesterday for the first time. The purpose of this is to drain the Spokane river through the tunnel to provide for building the Long lake dam.

Work will commence today on the coffer dam across the river, turning all water into the tunnel so the big dam can be constructed. All construction material is on the ground for the works. There are 400 men at work.

The Chamokane Contracting company railroad is running a daily train to Springdale from Long lake which connects with the Great Northern trains to and from Spokane at Springdale. The train leaves Long Lake at 6:30 a. m. daily, connecting at Springdale with the train leaving Spokane at 8:55 a. m. on the Great Northern and the train arriving in Spokane at 10:26 a. m.
