FOREWORD

An advertisement in a school magazine contained a statement which I think was outstanding and which should have an appeal to any person. The advertisement was placed there by a large manufacturing company of the East. The picture in the advertisement was of an airplane of the latest design and structure. At the side of the airplane were these words, “Your Challenge, To Build a Better Airplane”. As one glanced at the picture, this idea came to your mind: Can a better one be built? Does not the model in front of our eyes portray perfection in airplanes? Evidently the answer is “no”,’ or manufacturing companies would not throw out the challenge to the youth of today. What a challenge the world offers to boys and girls today.

Civilization is advancing at such a speed that it is requiring the utmost of man’s intelligence. Man must be trained to meet these challenges. There must be a place somewhere to start, there must be a beginning, and that beginning is in the public schools of America.

We, here at Reardan High School, have endeavored to meet the challenge. The courses offered, the activities engaged in, and the guidance offered, will, to the student who cares and tries, be the foundation stones upon which to build his character and his preparatory knowledge for further study and advancement.

May this Annual be not only a book of memories, but also a representation of accomplishments, signifying to you that you are preparing and have been preparing for your place in an organized society.

On the farm, in the factory, in the laboratory, in the halls of learning, in the machine shops, and so on until the whole world of labor has been encompassed, you will find the same challenge offered. It is there, wherever you are; accept it, honor it, and do your best for yourself and your country by “Building a Better Airplane”.
