Bridge Is Started For Highway 22

Construction of a temporary pile bridge across the Spokane river on state highway No. 22 to replace the Detillion bridge, which collapsed last week, was begun Monday. The new bridge will be of plank structure, and but 12 feet wide.

The Detillion ridge crashed into the river after an oil tank trailer broke loose and weakened it a few days before,

According to state highway officials, the bridge will allow for but one-way traffic, and is 600-yards downstream from the old bridge. No permanent bridge is to be built. as the Detillion bridge was under the water level set by the government for the backwater from the Grand Coulee dam.

Until the temporary bridge is completed, traffic between Fruitland and Davenport is being detoured by the way of Lincoln and Long Lake. The bridge will not be completed for several weeks, it was announced.
