LET $18,100 BRIDGE CONTRACT

Lincoln and Stevens Co Counties Boards Award Nee Span Work.

DAVENPORT, Wash, Nov. 18,—Contract for replacing the recently condemned Nee bridge, across the Spokane river at Lincoln, with a steel bridge has been awarded by Lincoln and Stevens counties’ commissioners to the Union Bridge company, Portland, Ore, for $18,100, Lincoln county will pay 60 per cent and Stevens county 40 per cent,

Tearing down the old wooden bridge was begun today and the new bridge will be erected at once. The old Nee bridge was condemned as unsafe two months ago and was closed for traffic, The middle pier of the old bridge will be used for the new structure and a new pier will be constructed at each end. The steel bridge will carry a 16-ton load. The estimated cost of the bridge was $25,000, but by taking a second-hand bridge that had seen little use the commissioners were able to save nearly $7000,
