$200,000 Estate Filed

Howard Joseph Mattes, who died here Aug. 19 at the age of 82, left a community property estate estimated at more than $200,000, according to probate papers filed at the county clerk's office.

In a will, Mattes left his home, car and personal effects to his wife, F, Rose Mattes; directed that $5,000 trust funds be set up from estate income for the education of two grandsons, Edward Nathaniel Crosby and Howard Mattes Crosby; gave $1,000 each to his daughters, Katherine Laing and Margaret Crosby, and gave the net in come from the rest of the estate equally to his wife and daughters.

After their death, the will directed, the body of the estate is to go to the grandsons after the younger one's 30th birthday, provided that if either became a Catholic priest, his share would go to the other. If both become Catholic priests, the will directs, the estate is to go equally to Manito Presbyterian Church and Whitworth College.
