Nun’s Services Held on Coast

REARDAN, Wash, — Graveside services for Sister Juliana Padley, C.S.J., 62, of Spring Lake, N.J., were held recently at Bellevue, Wash.

Born in Reardan, Sister Padley graduated from Lewis and Clark College and the University of Washington. She received a law degree from Washington in 1931, then practiced law until becoming a nun in 1946. She taught school at St. Margaret’s and Blanchet High School in British Columbia, From 1961 to 196 she was the provincial secretary for the Sisters of St. Joseph at Bellevue, then moved to New Jersey where she was secretary-general of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Sister Padley was a member of the Washington State Bar Association, Pi Sigma Alpha, a political science fraternity; Phi Delta, a women’s law sorority, and the Gavel, a debate honorary. She also received the Coif Award at the law school.

Sister Padley was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Padley of Reardan. Her father was superintendent of Reardan schools some 70 years ago, then superintendent of Lincoln County schools and later postmaster and an attorney at Reardan for many years.
