AIRSHIP REFUSES TO LEAVE GROUND

Although Reuben Bowers has a small force of mechanics working on his engine on the aeroplane which he is trying out in East Spokane, the machine has so far refused to fly because speed sufficient to enable the biplane to ascend is lacking.

Bowers is trying out the machine on the flat between the Spokane Valley Canning company’s plant and the up-river pumping station. Several times Friday the machine was turned loose and ran swiftly over the ground for several hundred yards, but it would not leave the earth.
