Most Valuable Athlete

Congratulations to Keith Schulz and Richard Stuhlmiller who were chosen as the most valuable athletes of the year, an honor usually bestowed upon one athlete. This year, however, both of these young men were so equally outstanding in sports that the selection committee vote ended in a tie, therefore both share in the honor. This was the first time that the honor has gone to more than one athlete.

Both Keith and Richard have been very active in three major sports for four years. They have been very important to Reardan's championship teams in the past and will long be the idols of the fans here for their remarkable ability and good sportsmanship. Their were successes that should serve as a goal for future R.H.S. athletes.

The committee of six having voting power for the most valuable athlete of the year, as related in the constitution, are the president of the Gray R Club, the vice president, secretary, athletic coaches, and superintendent of schools.

In quoting Section Ill of Article VI, we find that "in selecting the most valuable athlete, the following points shall be considered: number of sports participated in; cooperation with the coach and team; attitude toward the coach, players, team, and school; training and sportsmanship."

Athletes who previously have been voted this honor and have had their names inscribed on the Dr. Reinking trophy, are as follows:

Vern Carstens—1940 Ross Edwards—1941 James Hein—1946 Glen Anyan—1947 Robert Zwainz—1948 Chuck Eastman—1949

Cheer Leaders

It goes without saying that the cheer leaders are very important to the school's athletic success. Leading yells is a hard job, necessitating an abundance of energy, ability, and an eager desire to stimulate the school fans toward encouraging and inspiring the team to victory.

An efficient trio of cheer leaders who deserve a lot of credit for the successful seasons in football and basketball are Janet Clinton, Sally Landreth, and Helen Lightle. Yours was a job well done, girls, and we hereby give you a lusty round of applause!
