SEASON'S SUMMARY Reardan’s 24-man football roster, populated by eight freshmen, five sophomores, five juniors and six seniors showed only seven lettermen and less than a handful more of little-experienced players at the beginning of the season. With this thought in mind, also that Reardan had lost several key men through graduation, few expected to see the Indians go on to win six out of eight games in their first year of eight-man football, but they did just that.
The Indians were introduced to the new game of football by their coach, Mr.Leigh Steele, who expressed confidence and optimism in his boys being able to cope with the league’s best. After much hard preparatory work, the boys were "baptized" into eight-man ball against Rosalia's Spartans here and won, 9-0. The next game proved Coach Steele’s prediction a true one as his boys came from behind, 18-0, in sensational fashion, to work out a 21-18 win over Almira’s senior dominated team. After having a poor day and dropping a close one to Sprague, Reardan came back to roll over Columbia High, Creston and Harrington in a barrage of touchdowns that netted 153 points and completely pulverized the opposition. But another "Bad" day saw Reardan drop the - crucial championship encounter with Almira, 25-13, at Almira in a wind and rain storm that completely robbed the teams of any kind of passing attack. A final revenge victory was scored over Sprague, 46-33, and the team ended a highly successful season. CONGRATULATIONS, BOYS, AND COACH STEELE!
Those who have ended their playing careers for Reardan are regular starters Junior Anyan, Glenn Atkinson, Don Mann, Bob Rogers, Bob Mohr and Don Clayton, while reserves Wayne Delzer and Jack Fields also completed their eligibility.
