We wish to take this opportunity to offer special recognition to our athletic coach, Mr. Stimpson, who has worked very conscientiously with us during the football, basketball and baseball seasons. He has shown a great deal of interest in his work as a coach. We appreciate the many hours of hard work he has spent in developing the various teams this year. May next year be another successful one.
HIGH-LIGHTS OF THE BASKETBALL SEASON
Reardan placed third in the Bi-County League this year, which was a very good record. Several games were outstanding during the season. The two games with Fairfield were of interest due to the fact that Reardan played the first of the season at Fairfield. Fairfield won by only five points. Reardan made their highest score of the season against Fairfield when they played at Reardan, Reardan made 70 points in that game but incidently lost as Fairfield made 84 points. We did not feel too badly however, as Fairfield made the State again.
The games with Davenport are always of interest and draw large crowds. Reardan tied Davenport in the first game, but the winner was decided in an overtime, which resulted in Davenport winning the game. The results were reversed however when Reardan played at Davenport. It was a close, well played game with Reardan winning by a score of 48-42.
The games with Cheney were well played. Cheney’s team had a tall boy who was able to score aplenty. However, Reardan was able to keep him in check during the game played at Cheney. Reardan lost by only one point.
The upset of the season was when Reardan won over Almira. Reardan jumped to an early lead and was able to hold it throughout the game. The game was close all the way. Almira won over Reardan at Almira.
The game which really showed determination to win was the game with Creston at Creston. It seemed as if Reardan could not hit the basket, and at one time Creston was nearly twenty points ahead. Finally Reardan found the basket and began to narrow the score, and by the time the final whistle blew, Reardan was ahead two points. It was a wonderful game with plenty of excitement.
Reardan also played a close game against Rogers “B’” squad.
