Reardan Consolidations in Stevens County

In the 1950s, Ford was sending their high school students to Reardan. They considered consolidating with Reardan, but state law prohibited that since the districts did not share borders. (Long Lake was not yet consolidated with Reardan.) Ford and Loon Lake consolidated with Springdale.

Edwall Consolidations

The following table shows the school district consolidations into the Edwall Consolidated District. (The letter referemces the map of historic districts.)

Districts which consolidated into the Edwall School District
No. District Established Consolidated
A Fairview 1928
B Summit 1929
C Star 1938
D Rockdale 1932
E Cloverdale 1923
F Pleasant Valley
G Canby #128 or Big Spring 1932
H Sassin #3

Reardan-Edwall Consolidation

In 1957 Edwall started sending their high school students to Reardan.

In 1975 Reardan and Edwall consolidated to form Reardan-Edwall Joint School District #009.

This district covers about 336 square miles. It completely includes one state park, Fisk State Park, and part of the larger Riverside State Park. The district is the second largest in the state. For comparison of the land area:

Land Area Comparisom
Place Size (square miles)
San Francisco city limits 47
Spokane city limits (land and water) 70
Seattle city limits (land only) 84
Seattle city limits (land and water) 142
Chicago city limits 227
New York city limits 300
Reardan School District 336
Cheney School District 378
Los Angeles city limits 469
Spokane County 1,781
Lincoln County 2,339

Serving 695 students in 2021 results in a little over 2 students per square mile. Looking at that from a family perspective, the 386 families served are 1.15 families per square mile. The perimeter of the district is on the order of 125 miles.

Interactive District Map

The following map is under construction. The historic school houses are not marked and the present district boundary is not as accurate as it should be and it has a dreaded orphan. This is an attempt to replace the 1985 poster version with a more modern interactive version. Reardan-Edwall Consolidated School District Interactive Map
