Completes Tractor Course

Washington State College, Pullman--Jack Mann of Reardan was among the 22 men receiving diplomas for successfully completing the annual tractor short course recently held at the State College of Washington, under the auspices of the department of agricultural engineering. According to O. J. Trenary, short course instructor, more tractors were overhauled than ever before. During the course, various tractor manufacturers, and oil and tool concerns demonstrated their products. In addition to the regular student attending the course, some 280 farmers and others attended the various special lectures and demonstrations, Those who wish to attend next year are advised by Trenary to send in their names. The first 35 names will be placed on the preferred list.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mann have received word from their son, Aviation Cadet Jack Mann, that he was married on December 25 to Karene Stegmann of Denver, Colo., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton J. Wiley of Denver. Cadet Mann is attending the University of Colorado and has been in the service since October of 1942. He is a graduate of the local high school.

Aviation cadet Jack Mann is now stationed at Tulare, Calif., where he is receiving his primary pilot training. He was formerly stationed at San Anita, Calif. Jack's brother, Capt. Roy Mann, also received his primary training at Tulare. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mann.

Aviation Cadet Jack A. Mann, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Mann, has completed his pre-flight training at Santa Ana, Calif., and has arrived at the Rankin aeronautical academy, Tulare, Calif., where he will receive a ten week course in primary flight training. This academy is run by J. G. "Tex" Rankin, world champion aerobatic pilot and teacher of flying for the past 25 years. Cadet Mann will train in the same airplanes and under the same instructors, who have taught many of America's famous aces, including Major Richard I. Gong, the first American pilot to surpass the record of Captain Eddie Rickenbacker by shooting down 27 Jap planes.

Jack Mann, an aviation cadet in the army, who is taking his training at Gardner Field, Calif., and his wife from Denver, Color., came last week to be with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mann, for a week.

Captain Roy Mann, a veteran pilot from the European theater of operation, was moved from Canute field to Wright field, Dayton, Ohio. He is with the maintenance engineers. His wife has gone to Florida for a short visit with her folks. Aviation Cadet Jack Mann has finished his course at Gardner Field, Calif., and is taking his advanced training at Marfa, Texas. His wife accompanied him to Texas. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mann.

March 22, 1945 Davenport Times-Tribune

Jack Melvin Mann, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Mann of Reardan, and husband of the former Karene R. Stegeman of Denver, Colo., received his silver wings today when he graduated as a second lieutenant from Marfa army air field in Texas, an advanced two engine pilot school of the AAF training command, it was announced by Colonel A. J. Kerwin Malone, commanding officer. The new pilot, a former resident of Reardan, completed a course in training in twin engine aircraft. He was assigned here from Gardner Field, Taft, Calif. He is a former student of Reardan high school.

Second Lieutenant Jack Mann has been transferred from Marfa, Texas, to Lincoln, Neb. His wife accompanied him. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mann.

Second Lieutenant Jack Mann and wife arrived Friday from Lincoln, Nebraska and are spending his leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mann. He reports to Lincoln, Neb. on Oct. 1. Mrs. Mann's mother, Mrs. C. J. Willy of Denver, accompanied them.
