Pat Owens
March 26, 1942
Pat Owens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Owens, left Wednesday for Corpus Christi, Texas where he will enter the service as a flying cadet. He received his instruction at Gonzaga University in Spokane. He is a graduate of the Reardan High School [class of 1939].
February 4, 1943
Ensign Pat Owens, a high school graduate of Reardan, and Lester Hobart, a machine gunner in the navy, formerly from here, gave a few of their experiences in the services to the assembly Monday afternoon.
October 12, 1944
According to Walter P. (Pat) Owens, Lt. (j.g.) stationed somewhere in the Marianas, American flyers are rarely bothered by Jap interceptor craft, but have been discovering a new menace, American flyers. Army, navy and marine planes over Tinian wore so thick during the fighting for that island that each pilot's greatest danger was collision with other American planes. He said, "It was the most enjoyable menace I've ever known." Lt. Owens is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Owens, is a graduate of Reardan high school and was a student at Gonzaga at the time of his enlistment.
December 14, 1944
Lieutenant (j.g.) Pat Owens, who is a navy pilot, came Thursday and will spend the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Owens. He has been in the Pacific for 7 months and participated in battles at the Marianas, Peleliu, and the Philippines. In his last mission, he was forced to land on the carrier St. Lo, which was sunk. [This was the first U.S. carrier sunk by kamakaze attack]. This was not his base carrier. Lt. Owens graduated from the Reardan high school and attended Gonzaga University.
February 8, 1945
Lieutenant (j.g.) Pat Owens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Owens, is now stationed at Arlington. He is a navy pilot and his carrier was torpedoed and sunk in the Pacific. After floating in the water for an hour he and his comrades were rescued.
September 27, 1945
Lt. Pat Owens, a navy pilot, returned home Friday after being placed on the inactive list at Seattle. He entered the service in January 1942 and spent about 10 months at sea. He was at Pearl Harbor, Mariana, Palau Island and at the initial landing at Leyte. Lt. Owens is a graduate of Reardan high school and was a student at Gonzaga University, majoring in business administration, when he enlisted. He expects to return to Gonzaga to resume his studies. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Owens.
