WALTER FAIRMAN DECLARED GUILTY AT SPRAGUE.
FOR KILLING HIS EMPLOYER.
Recommendation of Mercy to His Honor, Judge Mount, Accompanied the Findings.
TERM OF COURT HAS CLOSED.
Sprague, Wash., Nov, 2°.—Judge Mount has been holding the last term of court at Sprague since the 24 inst. The trial of Walter Fairman, the threshing hand who killed his employer, J. H. Buckman, at Reardan, September 1, with a pitch-fork, was on trial all day yesterday. The evidence showed that there was provocation in the deed and that Fairman had some cause for violent measures toward Fairman. The case was pushed through with dispatch, a number of witnesses from Reardan being in attendance. The previous good character of the accused was brought out by his attorneys. The case was given to the jury in the evening and after being out all night the verdict of manslaughter “was returned, with a recommendation of mercy to the court. Court adjourned tonight.
John Thyen, the wheat buyer of Reardan and Edwall, on trial for alleged embezzlement of funds belonging to C. D. Francis & Co., was acquitted.
