REARDAN, Wash., Jan, 27.—Nick Smith, butcher and cattle buyer, and the cook at the Hotel Reardan had a personal encounter yesterday, in which, according to all accounts, the cook came out second best, Smith accuses the cook of insulting a girl. A warrant for assault and battery was served on Smith last night.
The long-expected masquerade ball, given for the benefit of the baseball nine, took place last evening. About 60 couples were present, a number of them coming from surrounding towns. A neat sum was realized, which will be used in outfitting the team for the coming season.
REARDAN, Wash., Jan. 30. H. T. ("Deep Creek") Jones has returned from Seattle, but will only remain at home for a few days, as he expects to return to Seattle the last of this week. Mr, Jones returns home to prepare for a trip to Alaska.
