FIGHT COUNCIL

FOR LOW LICENSE

Reardan Saloon Men Make Second Attempt and Are Defeated.

RETAIN $1000 MAXIMUM

Debate Waxes Hot and Councilmen Are Divided om the Question.

REARDAN, Wash, Feb. 3.—-A heated debate took place in the council chambers last night when the saloon men for the second time fought for a lower license. Before the license was raised, in November, 1907, the saloon men were notified to appear before the council and show cause why the license should not be raised to $1000. They failed to appear,

Since that time they have exhausted every effort to lower the license. Councilmen J. A. Hanson and H. Z. Dean supported the saloons and Councilmen J. R. Davidson, Peter Tramm and C. H. Finrow voted against them. It is hardly probable another effort will be made to lower the license.

A franchise was granted the West Crescent Farmers’ Telephone company to erect and operate lines In the city.
