REOPEN OLD POSTOFFICE

Bids are being called for by the government for carrying United States mails from Chamokane, on the Spokane river, near the mouth cf the Chamokane creek, via Wellpinit mission, to Springdale, a distance of about 30 miles. This would appear to settle the matter of the mail supply point for that section of the country, which both Springdale and Reardan have been claiming for some time past.

Several years ago, when the Wellpinit office was first establishes, the mail was carried from Springdale, but the office was later discontinued on account of the inability of the government to secure any one to act as postmaster. Recently, however the office was reestablished, the increased population in that section and the near approach of the opening of a portion of the Spokane reservation to homestead settlement making such a move necessary.

It is understood that another new office to be known as Wolfe is soon to be established at a point 12 miles west of Springdale, It appears probable that this place will in future be the supply point for all three of these interior offices.
