BAD LINK IN GOOD ROADS IS THORN

Half Mile on Lincoln-Spokane County Line May Never Be Improved.

GRADE IS TOO STEEP

Would Connect Sunset Boulevard and Reardan Highway—Commissioners Explain.

According to the county commissioners there {s a strip of road on the county line between this county and Lincoln county that stands small chance of ever being improved to connect miles of good macadam road on either side. Sunset boulevard and the Reardan road are now taken to within one-half mile of each other.

The road is one mile on the county line and Lincoln county has put in its half of the mile and is waiting for the commissioners of Spokane county to put in the other half. As it is now the half mile {s in very bad shape, according to those who have seen it.

Commissioners Allan R, Scott and Fred K, McBroom said yesterday that the half mile of road was so hilly that the state would never approve of a road of that grade. The state will not permit a road of more than 5 per cent grade and they allege this will be more than that unless it winds around the hills to a greater length than a half mile.

“In the first place there was a more practical and cheaper route than the one taken,” said Commissioner McBroom, “Lincoln county agreed to consult us about putting in the connecting link, but has not done so and has constructed the easy half of the road and left us the hard part of it.”
