HARTLEY PARDONS “WHEAT QUEEN”
Orders Mrs. J. Ditmar Released From Davenport Jail—Serving Booze Sentence.
DAVENPORT, Wash., July 7.—Mrs, Josephine Ditmar, pioneer Lincoln county resident, familiarly known as the “wheat queen of the Big Bend,” has been released from the county jail here, having been pardoned by Governor Hartley.
Mrs. Ditmar was serving six months and a $750 fine, assessed against her in superior court for violation of the liquor laws. She had served four months of her time and had been ailing for some time. Petitions were circulated here a month ago, nearly all business men signing, asking that Mrs. Ditmar be released.
Mrs. Ditmar was arrested two years ago at her farm, near Reardan, when officers raided the place and found parts of a still and a quantity of moonshine liquor. Mrs. Ditmar at one time during pioneer days was said to own more good wheat land than any other woman in this country. Her holdings have dwindled away until she has none.
