AUTO CLUB REPORTS INLAND EMPIRE HIGHWAY CONDITIONS

Detour at Paradise Around Paying Work—Oil Fourth of July Canyon.

In about a week a detour of 12 miles will be opened around the seven-mile stretch of road to be paved this summer on the Inland Empire highway north of Spangle, F. L. Crowe, secretary of the Inland Automobile association, announced today.

“This detour will start at the Paradise store. It is graveled and will be kept in good shape,” Mr. Crowe said. “It will be posted and follows county roads.” The association is preparing a map showing the detour.

The Detillion bridge over the Spokane river between Davenport and Hunters is closed for about two weeks for repairs. Traffic is being detoured via Peach and across the Spokane river at the new Nee bridge above Lincoln. From there the road goes to Fruitland to reach the Davenport-Kettle Falls highway.

Oil Canyon Road.

Nineteen miles of highway east of Kellogg in the Fourth of July canyon is being oiled Drivers are cautioned to go slow.

The detour at Vantage Ferry is still in effect. This is 36 miles long It is on the east side of the ferry and is In bad condition. Traffic to the Coast is being routed mainly via Blewett pass on account of this detour.

Blewett pass is {n good condition. Snoqualmie pass is reported in fair condition but dusty.

The North Central highway is bad on account of construction work between Quincy and Ellensburg and detouring is necessary. Near the Columbia river the detour is sandy and rocky and is considered not advisable by the auto association office. From Quincy to Wenatchee this highway is graveled and in excellent condition.

On the road between Sandpoint and Kalispell via Libby, construction work is under way between Happy's Inn and Kalispell.

The last 10 miles of the road to St. Maries via Rockford, Worley and Plummer is rough because of logging operations.
