MAN MAY DIE, HORSE KILLED
Second Man Hurt—Truck Bearing Steed Ran Over Grade.
Tom Atkinson, 65, probably suffered fatal injuries; Leonard Wood was badly injured, and the horse they were taking to the fox farm for feed was killed instantly yesterday on Four Mound prairie when a truck with its horse cargo plunged down an embankment.
Atkinson, who resides on Four Mound, hired Wood to haul the horse to the fox farm. They were on the Spring Creek road where it intersects the Trail-Four Mound road and on a grade when the car ran away.
Atkinson saw that he must jump, and when he made the leap landed on his head. His skull was fractured and he was taken to the Sacred Heart hospital after he was treated at the emergency hospital.
Wood was cut about the face when he leaped. The truck turned over on the horse, according to Deputy Sheriffs Noval and Griffin.
