‘Music Contests End Successfully
The Spokane music festival contests wound up their most successful year yesterday. Four contestants, Carolyn Norris, pianist; Mar- garet Quist and Byron Swanson, vocalists, and Alfred Hedal, violinist, were chosen to appear with the Spokane Civic Symphony orchestra during the May festival week program.
Those rated “superior with hon- ors,” the highest award, on the final day were:
Piano—Elsie Merle Parker, Harl Aldrich, Carolina Norris, Lynn Aldrich, Richard Thiele, Eleanor Mae Hanson, Roger Mahrt, Shirley Goodrich, Mary Lou Ford.
Piano duo—Rosaleen Jackman and June Wold, Margery Weipert and Roger Mahrt, Lynn and Harl Aldrich.
Voice sextet—Helen Turner, Dolores Roeders, Mary Bogle, Jean Goudzward, Barbara Miller, Norma Huff.
Piano concerto—Carolyn Norris and Elsie Merle Parker.
Voice—Margaret Quist, Byron Swanson, Eleanor Barrow and Beverly Adams.
The following were rated ‘superior’:
Piano—June Wold and Marcia Barnes.
Piano duo—Dolores Espeland and Lois Lee.
Piano concerto—Dorothy Wheatley and Dorothy Wiscombe.
Voice—Katherine Kass, Evelyn Seyforth and Beatrice Barnes.
Voice trio—Beatrice Barnes, Grace Sabin and Winnie Evans.
