REARDAN FETE ATTRACTS 1000
Seventh Annual Community Day Is Big Success
REARDAN, Wash., June 5,— More than 1000 residents, former residents and those from neighboring communities joined together on Saturday to attend the seventh annual community day celebration here. Committee members announced that approximately $2500 was netted for the Reardan Memorial Clinic association. Last year the committee gave the association $2700.
The celebration got off to a successful start with a parade down Main street. The American Legion color guard led the procession, followed by the Reardan school band, 20 floats, chauffeured cars, Davenport American Legion color guard, Edwall school band, Reardan philharmonic band, children in costume, children’s pets, Boy Scouts and 42 riders. Riding in the chauffeured cars were those who had celebrated their golden wedding anniversaries or had passed their 80th birthday.

George Zwainz was master of ceremonies, and introduced Mayor B. L. Barnard, who gave the welcoming address and crowned Bernadine Schmitt as Queen Community Day. In the queen’s court were Carol Hein, Bertha Coil, Shirley Ensor, Helen Lightle, Ann Sherwood and Jennie Hendon. The pioneers honored were Mr, and Mrs. Henry Brommer, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Barnard, Mr. and Mrs, J. A. Ahlf, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Hein, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kock, Mr. and Mrs. George Thorpe and Mr. and Mrs, Fred McDowell, Mrs. J. A. McCormack, Mrs. Mary Puls, Mrs. Mary Barnard, Mrs. Hattie Raymer, W. H. Padley, Mrs. Annie Mihm, J. A. Hansen, Mrs, Mary Furgason and Mrs. Anna Lutzhoft.
Prizes Are Given
Prizes for floats in the Class A division went to Mondovi Grange, first; West Deep Creek Grange, second and the Reardan churches, third. In the juvenile class the Reardan 4-H Garden club took first; Pots and Pans 4-H club second and Boy Scouts, third.
Commercial float honors went to Ranch House cafe, first; Radcliff Motors of Cheney, second; and Colville’s garage, third. Jitneys, first, “Herb Williams family; second, Billy Hein and Roger Hein.
Horse and rider, women: first, Mrs. Wesley Stewart; second, Mrs. Howard Tilson; third, Mrs. Roscoe McClure. Men, first, Merril Bacon; second, Nin Guhlke; third, Frank Stubbs.
Best-matched pair, first, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Tilson; second, Nin Guhlke and Lloyd Thorpe; third, Winnie Lou Puls and Larry Holz- nagel.
Horses coming the longest distance, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nelson.
Junior Division
Junior division, girls: First, Shirley Gaulke; second, Winnie Lou Puls; third Geraldine Lightle, Boys, first, Jimmie Puls; second, Donald Williams; third, Gary Wollweber.
Youngest rider, Gary Wollweber, | years old.
Children’s pets, girls: First, Deanne Hein; second, Gayle Johnson. Boys first, Ray Lindquist; second, Steve Garber; third, Paul Williams.
Children's vehicles, girls: First, Joanne Johnson; second, Linda Weyen; third, Carol Good. Boys, first st, Kim Feil; second, Denny McLean; third, John Peek.

A carnival and softball game berween Reardan and Davenport were the afternoon attractions. Reardan won the ball game 15 to 5.
The grand prize, a steer, went to John Childs. A dance in the evening at the American Legion hall ended the day’s festivities.
