DAVENPORT MAN HUNTING VICTIM
A young Davenport, Wash., farmer was accidentally killed yesterday in a hunting accident near Elk, Wash., by a shot from his brother's rifle, the Spokane county sheriff's office reported.
Dean Delonis McLain, 36, died within two minutes, according to the coroner, Dr. Francis E, Burns. He said a 30-30 caliber bullet pierced the right arm and abdomen of McLain, severing an artery.
McLain was the first person to die in a hunting accident in Spokane county this season.
Mrs. Marjorie McLain, the hunter’s widow and a witness to the tragedy told officers she was standing near her brother-in-law, Wayne McLain, E815 Crown, when he fired the fatal shot. Her husband, circling the area to flush out deer toward his brother, was wearing a brown blazer and red hunting cap.
The shooting occurred in rough terrain about 2 1/2 miles east of Elk and about a half mile east of the Blanchard, Idaho, road. Dr. Burns said. McLain was held pending an inquest, the sheriff here said last night.
Besides his widow, McLain is survived by two sons, Dennis, 6, and Thomas, 2, both at the home; his mother, Mrs. Belle McLain, and two sisters, Mrs. Lois Brommer and Mrs, Phyllis Dickey, all of Reardan, Wash., and three brothers, Jack and [Loyd] of Reardan and Wayne of Spokane.
The body is at Thornhill-Carey funeral home.
