COMMUNITY DAY PRIZES AWARDED

More Than 1000 Visitors Throng Reardan

REARDAN, Wash., June 6.—More than 1000 residents, former residents and persons from neighboring communities joined together Saturday to make the second-annual Community day celebration a success.

The day's activities began with a parade down the main street with an American Legion color guard leading the procession, Following were 28 grade school majoréttes, school band, children in costume, children with pets and vehicles, floats, chauffeured cars, horses and riders,

Special cars carried those having celebrated their golden wedding anniversaries or their 80th birthdays. They were Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Barnard, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hein, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Clinton, Mr. and Mrs. J. A,. Hansen, Mr. and Mrs, Henry Brommer, Mr. and Mrs. Fred McDowell, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Springer, Mrs. Luke Flood, Mrs. Mary Puls, Mrs, Anna Mihm, Mrs. Zilla Emley, Mrs. Katie Buchanan, W. H. Padley, Herman Schulz and Henry Tramm.

W. J. Colville, chairman of the Community Day association, crowned Queen Marlene Bergeron, who was sponsored by the Spring Creek Grange. Her court included Joan Meyer, West Deep creek Grange; Heidi Schmitt, Waukon Grange; Glenice Robison, Mondovi Grange, and Carol Lynch, Reardan high school. G. W. Bannon was master of ceremonies.

Prize Awards Made

Prize awards.in the parade included.

Floats: Class A. division—First, Community church; second, Spring Creek Grange; third, West Deep Creek Grange, Class B— First, Green Thumb 4-H club; second Edwall Cub Scouts; third, Rainbow Girls. Class C—Colville Garage. Jitneys—First, Ray Lillengreen. The Indian marching unit from Wellpinit also placed first.

Judges were Miss Lots Scantland, associate extension agent; Ross Trout, former county agent of Davenport, and E. E. Heslin, superintendent of the Long Lake power plant.

Juvenile parade winners: Pets (girls}—First, Eileen Landreth; second, Linda Garher; (boys) first, Kim Fell: second, John McLain. Vehicles (girls)—First, Alix Carl- son, second, Connie Rinker; third, Diane Carlson; boys first, Jimmie Peterson; second, Jerry Krause; third, Howard Thiemens, Novelty—First, Linda and Roger Peterson; Diana Brommer; Garber and Wyborney. Costumes (girls——First, Elvira Cox, Wellpenit; second Jean Michael; Mary Jane Fell; boys first, Johnny and David Backer; second, Randy Krupke: third, Tommy Rux. Judges were Mrs. Harold Tierney, Mrs. Arthur Hanning and Glen Wisdom.

Horses and® riders—Women, first, Mrs. Richard Murbach: second, Diane Kelso; men, first, Vern Puls: second, Frank Stubbs, Davenport: third, Oscar Polenski, Edwall. juniors, girls, first, Suzanne Meyer: second, Becky Williams: boys, first, Eddie Williams, Davenport: second, Don Williams; third, Nic Hein. Shetland ponies—First, Paul Williams; second, Jerry Williams, Davenport. Longest distance—Diane, Kelso, Oroville. Matched pairs—First, Vern and Jimmie Puls; second, Diane Kelso and Dan Wynia; third, Nic Hein and Suzanne Meyer. The judge was Frank Graham of Dishman.

Lunch was served at the school grounds where all the activities took place. The afternoon attractions were a carnival, a flower show and a baseball game between the high school and the town with the school winner.

A talent program at the school auditorium included instrumental, vocal and dancing numbers. The four best numbers selected were: Instrumental trio, George Carstens, Bruce Tramm and Norman Fiess; Bill Mahrt, trombone solo, accompanied by Joan Meyer; vocal solo, Bobby Shanks, and a dance, Cheryl and David Barnard.

Winnie Lou Puls of Waukon Grange was selected Reardan princess for the Lincoln county fair in September at Davenport. The other candidates were Linda Schultz and Joyce Heldstab.

The day’s festivities concluded & with a dance at the American Legion hall.

Proceeds will go to the Reardan Memorial association.
