H. J. Mattes Dies; Rites Set Friday
Funeral services for Howard J. Mattes, W427 Twenty-fourth, who died in a local hospital Wednesday, will be Friday at 3 p.m. in Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home.
The Rev, Raymond W. Moody will officiate. Entombment will follow at Riverside Mausoleum.
A native of Iowa, Mr. Mattes had lived here 37 years and had been a resident of the Inland Empire for 63 years.
He entered a lumber business at Reardan, Wash., in 1905 and moved to Spokane in 1927. He had also established lumber interests at Edwall, Harrington and Davenport.
He was a member of Manito Masonic Lodge, Manito Presbyterian Church and Central Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Rose, at the home; two daughters, Mrs. Katherine Laing and Mrs. E. J. Crosby, and two grandsons, all of Spokane.
