Probation Is Earned by Inmate

DAVENPORT, Wash.—One of the men serving time for possessing marijuana at Tolstoy Farm has been released from custody on an order "modifying probation” by Judge Willard Roe.

Alan R. Bell, 23, was released from the Lincoln County jail after serving 60 days of the six months sentence, a stipulation of a three-year probationary sentence.

Sheriff Ed Atwood said the order from Judge Roe reduced the sentence to allow Bell to attend school in New York. The order said Bell will be under reciprocal probation between New York and Washington parole boards.

Two of the marijuana case defendants, Walter Engelbrecht and Richard Keigwin, are still serving sentences in the jail. Two defendants, Thomas and Catherine Hall, who pleaded guilty; were granted a postponement of sentencing by Judge Roe, otherwise there has been a dispensation for all of the original 16 defendants in the case.

The case against Huw Williams, Tolstoy Farm founder, was made earlier and during the last week a dismissal was issued for the final 10 defendants.
