Lawrence H. Carstens

Service for Lawrence H. Carstens, 72, a lifetime resident of Reardan, Wash., and former manager of Reardan Grain Growers, was today at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport.

Private burial service was at Reardan Cemetery.

Mr. Carstens died Sunday at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

The son of William and Lila (Thompson) Carstens, he was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Reardan. His father and his grandfather, Claus Carstens, were Eastern Washington pioneers, settling in the Reardan area in 1884.

Lawrence Carstens farmed 27 years at Reardan and then served as manager of Reardan Grain Growers for 14 years, retiring in 1974. He was a charter member of the Reardan Lions and a former member of Reardan Memorial Library board.

He was a member of Spring Creek Grange, an honorary member of Pacific Northwest Grain Dealers Association and honorary chapter farmer of Future Farmers of America.

Mr. Carstens and the former Viola Stutheit, who were married in Reardan, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 27.

Survivors include his wife, at the Reardan home; two sons, Paul Carstens of Oshkosh, Wis., and Clifford Carstens of Reardan; and six grandchildren.
