Clarence Thorpe

[Clarence may have graduated from Edwall about 1918. He did serve in WWI. There is a Thorpe Road south of Edwall and six Thorpes buried in the Edwall Cemetery, including his mother Mary Ellen, father George and two of his brothers, George and William and their wives, Emily and Gertrude.]

Lieutenant Colonel Clarence [S.] Thorpe and Mrs. Thorpe [nee Francis Burritt, she moved around a lot and they married in Texas], former Edwall residents have reported to friends in this area that they are safe in Honolulu, Hawaii.

[Fold3.com says he was a army air corps instructor in 1940 with a BSME from the University of Washington in 1922. He got the temporary rank of Lieutenant Colonel on December 5, 1941. By 1944 his rank had reverted to Major. In 1947 he again was a temporary Lieutenant Colonel and he retired at that point. He died in 1982 and is buried at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, El Paso TX ]
