February 25, 1943 Davenport Times-Tribune

Ernest Weyen of Spokane, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Weyen of Espanola, was inducted into the army and sent to Fort Douglas. He writes that he passed the intelligence test for officer's training. He is a graduate of the local high school and was employed in Spokane. His wife will remain in Spokane.

March 4, 1943 Davenport Times-Tribune

Private Ernest Weyen writes Mr. and Mrs. John H. Weyen that he has been transferred from Fort Douglas, Utah, to Camp Haan, Riverside, Calif. He is with the coast artillery. He is a graduate of Reardan high school.

July 22, 1943 Davenport Times-Tribune

Private Ernest Weyen, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Weyen, has arrived at the University of San Francisco. He is enrolled in the army specialized training program in a pre-engineering course. Prior to this, Private Weyen was at Camp Haan and also attended Chaffey college at Ontario, Calif. Upon completion of this course, which will take approximately nine months, he will, if qualified, be sent on for further training in advanced engineering.

October 7, 1943 Davenport Times-Tribune

Private First Class Ernest Weyen is spending a week's furlough here. Mrs. Weyen came with him and they are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Weyen and with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rice of Spokane, and other relatives. Private Weyen is with the army engineers and is attending the University of San Francisco.

January 6, 1944 Davenport Times-Tribune

Private and Mrs. Ernest Weyen of San Francisco are spending a few day here with Pfc. Weyen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Weyen, and with Mrs. Weyen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rice of Spokane. Pvt. Weyen is with the army engineers and is attending the University of San Francisco where he is enrolled in the army specialized training program in a pre-engineering course. He has been in the service since February.

December 7, 1944 Davenport Times-Tribune

Ernest Weyen and wife are spending his furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Weyen, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rice, in Spokane. He has just completed a course with the signal corps in the army at San Luis Obispo, Calif. He will report there on December 17 for his assignment.

March 1, 1945 Davenport Times-Tribune

Mr. and Mrs. John H. Weyen had word that their son, Corporal Ernest Weyen, is somewhere in the south Pacific. He is with the signal corps in amphibious landing and is a graduate of the Reardan high school.

May 3, 1945 Davenport Times-Tribune

Corporal Ernest Weyen, who is with the joint assault signal corps, writes his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Weyen, he is now stationed at Okinawa. He entered the army two years ago and has been overseas since January. His wife, the former Eilene Carstens, lives in Spokane.

August 9, 1945 Davenport Times-Tribune

Sergeant Ernest Weyen, who is with the joint assault signal corps of amphibious landing, writes his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Weyen, that he has been sent from Okinawa to the Philippines to a rest camp.

January 31, 1946 Davenport Times-Tribune

Mr. and Mrs. John Weyen had word that their son, Ernest Weyen, has been promoted to Technical Sergeant and that he is on his way home. He is with the signal corps and served three years, one year in the Pacific, and the last several months on Luzon. His wife is in Spokane.

March 14, 1946 Davenport Times-Tribune

T Sergeant Ernest Weyen arrived home Friday after having his discharge at Fort Lewis. He served 3 years, 14 months being on Okinawa and the Philippine Islands with the Signal Corps. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Weyen and was graduated from Reardan High school. His wife, the former Eilene Carstens, made her home in Spokane during his absence.
