[This story is a story of courtship and early marriage of Adrian Bafus, who was the Smith-Hughes vocational agriculture teacher from September 1940 through May 1941, and Evelyn Plaster, the daughter of Roy and Irma Plaster. Evelyn Plaster's aunt was also Evelyn Plaster or in the language of the times, Mrs. Edwin Plaster or Mrs. E. J. Plaster.]

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Plaster and the Misses Phyllis, Doris and Evelyn Plaster returned Sunday from a three week trip through Oregon and California. They visited the San Francisco [World's] fair and relatives in Los Angeles and Long Beach, the Yosemite National Park and the Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. While in San Francisco, they visited Roy Mahrt and family and in Oakland, Jim Mahrt and family. The Mahrt boys are former residents of Reardan and the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mahrt. Mrs. Jim Mahrt was the former Miss Helen Nest of Harrington and taught school here.
The Plasters were overnight guests at the home home Mrs. J. Elkins and her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Hoyt of Corning, California. Mrs. Elkins is a former Reardan resident and her daughter, Mrs. Hoyt, taught in the Reardan schools. Mrs. Elkins and Mr. Hoyt are in the mortuary business.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Sprinkle and daughter Zelda Sprinkle returned Tuesday evening from Enamclaw where they were delegates to the State Convention of the rural Letter Carriers' Association and the Auxiliary. On the coast the visited Mr. Sprinkle's cousin, who is a retired Navy officer at Bremerton. Also called upon Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Kendrick, former residents of this community. Miss Evelyn Plaster went with them to visit friends in Tacoma. Where there, she was a guest at a friend's announcement party.

Mr. and Mrs. Emil Koeller were hosts at a dinner party Saturday evening, the occasion being their second wedding anniversary. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Plaster [(his sister)], the Misses Evelyn, Phyllis and Doris Plaster, and [his parents] Mr. and Mrs. William Koeller.
[Absent from this party seems to be Dale, Carl and George, Emil's sons and Roy and Helen Koeller, Emil's brother. At the time Dale was making his home with Garbutt and Alvina King, the Reardan correspondent to the Davenport Times-Tribune. Carl was making his home with Annie Gerber and George was making his home with Roy and Helen. Annie Gerber and Alvina King are Emil's sisters-in-law from his first marriage to Dorothy (Dora) Schultz. This was Emil's third wife.]
Mrs. Claude Humphrey and Miss Inez Day were hostesses at a reunion of the Reardan high school class of 1936. Saturday night at the home of the former. Cootie and other games were enjoyed after which refreshments were served. [Washington Water Power hired young women to go out into their service area to teach people about the advantages of using electricity for heating, cooking, clothes washing, etc. These women were required to remain single as a condition of their employment to attract young farmers to their sessions. One of Evelyn's cousins, Jim Koeller, did marry one of her coworkers, Irene Selfridge, and they had to keep the marriage secret so Irene could keep her job. ]

Cupid's Arrow Pierces Heart of Prominent Young Couple
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Plaster have announced the engagement of their daughter, Evelyn, to Adrian Bafus, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Bafus of Endicott.
The word was revealed to a number of intimate friends at a party given by Miss Plaster and Miss Shirley Hildebrand in Spokane. A telegram was delivered which read as follows: "Cupid's arrow has pierced the hearts of Evelyn and Adrian. Wedding bells will be December 10."
Miss Plaster is a graduate of the local high school and Washington state college, where she also did graduate work in home economics. She is a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and the Spokane Mountaineers. She was formerly employed as a home economist for the Washington Water Power in Spokane and has recently been working at Baxter general hospital.
Mr. Bafus is also a graduate of Washington state college and is a member of the Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity. He had been teaching vocational agriculture in the school here before being called into the service.
Miss Plaster was entertained at a shower in Spokane given by Mrs. B. J. Gill and Mrs. Arthur Johnson (Dorothy Reaugh) both sorority sisters of Miss Plaster. Those present were Mrs. H. G. Burns, Miss Flo Young, Miss Mary Elizabeth Young, Miss Hazel Jackson, Miss Ruth Ryan, Miss La Veta Slater, Miss Shirley Hildenbrand, Miss Rolla Weekender, Mrs. Ed Harris, Mrs. Ed Eckart, Mrs. Ernest Meyer, Mrs. Forrest Caret, Mrs. Roy Plaster, Miss Marjorie Treffry and Mrs. Jim White.
The wedding will take place in the Lutheran church here. Miss Plaster will have as her only attendant, her sister Doris Plaster. Her other sister, Phyllis Plaster, will be unable to attend, since she is in Boston interning at the Peter Bent Brigham hospital. Mr. Bafus will have his brother as best man. The couple will reside at Temple, Texas, where Mr. Bafus is stationed with the tank destroyer battalion.
Held Miscellaneous Shower in Honor of Evelyn Plaster
Mrs. O. E. Mahrt, Mrs. John Brommer, Mrs. Harvey Sprinkle, and Mrs. George Ekins of Davenport entertained at a miscellaneous shower at the Mahrt home on Saturday in honor of Miss Evelyn Plaster, bride-elect of Adrian Bafus of Endicott. The color scheme was carried out in red, white and blue, and Uncle Sam hat forming the centerpiece with red, white and blue candelabra on either side. The ice cream was red, white and blue with flags decorating the cakes. The afternoon was spent in quiz contests.

Evelyn Plaster Wedded in Nice Double Ring Ceremony
December 10 marked the date of the wedding of Miss Evelyn Plaster, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Plaster of Reardan to Adrian Bafus, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Bafus of Endicott. The double ring ceremony was at the Emmanuel Lutheran church in Reardan by the Rev. Edward Wagner.
The bride wore a white satin gown with a sweetheart neckline outlined with seed pearls and a finger tip veil. She carried a shower bouquet of white roses and chrysanthemums. The maid of honor was Miss Doris Plaster, sister of the bride, who wore a light blue gown with satin trim and carried pink roses and Chrysanthemums. William Bafus of Endicott was his brother's best man. The ushers were Lloyd Bafus of Endicott and Bernie Gill of Spokane and Mrs. Arthur Johnson (Dorothy Reaugh) of Hatton. \ Wedding music was furnished by Miss Evelyn Wendlandt at the organ and Robert Zimmerman of Spokane, fraternity brother of Mr. Bafus sang "O Promise Me," "Because." and the Alpha Delta Pi Sweetheart Song. After the ceremony the reception was held at the Plaster home. Miss Hazel Jackson, Miss Flo Young and Miss Rolla Weekender of Spokane served the wedding cake.
The bride is a graduate of Washington state college and did graduate work in Home Economics and belongs to Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She has been a home economist with the Washington Water Power company in Spokane and recently has been employed at the Baxter General Hospital.
Mr. Bafus is also a graduate of Washington state college belongs to Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity. He had been teaching vocational agriculture until he was called in the service. The couple will reside at Temple, Texas where Mr. Bafus is stationed with the tank division.

Adrian Bafus has been transferred from Fort Hood, Texas to Camp Maxey at Paris, Texas. He is with a tank destroyer division of the army and was formerly a Smith-Hughes teacher in the high school here. Mrs. Bafus, the former Miss Evelyn Plaster, accompanied him to his new base.

Adrian Bafus has left his base at Camp Maxey, Paris, Texas for port of embarkation. He is with a tank destroyer battalion and at the time he entered service, he was the Smith-Hughes instructor at the high school here. Mrs. Bafus (Evelyn Plaster) expects to come home soon.

Mrs. Adrian Bafus arrived here from Paris, Texas, on Saturday night of last week. Mr. Bafus has left for overseas duty and Mrs. Bafus will make here home here.

Mrs. Adrian Bafus has received letters from her husband since the invasion, stating that he is still stationed in England. He is with a tank division of the army.

Mrs. Adrian Bafus of Richland spent the weekend here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Plaster. Mrs. Bafus is supervisor of a cafeteria at Richland. [It seems likely that this was part of the Hanford project.]

Corporal Adrian Bafus has been awarded the bronze star. He also wears the presidential unit citation and European theater of operations ribbon with five stars. Prior to entering the service four years ago, he was Smith-Hughes instructor in the local school. Cpl. Bafus went overseas in April of last year and served with Patton's third army. He writes his wife [the former Evelyn Plaster] who is at Pullman, that he is near Dresden and is seeing much country as he is driving truck and taking soldiers to various towns for their furloughs. He is Mr. and Mrs. Roy Plaster's son-in-law.

Adrian Bafus, who has served in the army since June, 1941, received his discharge on points at Fort Lewis Thursday. He spent 18 months overseas in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. He as 5 battle stars and a bronze star. Prior to entering the service, he was the Smith-Hughes instructor in the high school here. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. John Bafus of Endicott. His wife is the former Evelyn Plaster.
