Jimmie Rinker entertained several of his classmates at a ski party Saturday. Included were Annabelle Fleming, Marjorie Weipert, Mildred Stark, Tessabela Emley, Beth Barnard, Jean Anyan, Berne Barnard, Carl Garber and Roger Mahrt.

Rev. Charles B. Marrs, Boy Scoutmaster, and C. F. Joslin took the Reardan Scout troop to Spokane to swim at the Y. W. C. A. Wednesday night. Rev. W. S. Plowman, assistant Scoutmaster, Lloyd McLain and Billie Colville furnished the cars. The boys were Billie Colville, Tommy Walsh, Jack and Jim Delamater, Jimmy Rinker, Carl Garber, Harold Mann, Glen Anderson, Richard Foland, Dean Anyan, George Koeller, Earl Travis, Marvin Evers, Berne Barnard, Carl Koeller and Elmer Wendlandt.

Carl Garber was sworn into the marines on Tuesday of last week and is awaiting a call to leave for service. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Garber and graduated from the local high school this year.

Carl Garber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Garber, left Saturday for San Diego, Calif., where he will start his training in the marines. He is the second 17-year-old member of this year's graduating class to enter the service, the other being Jimmy Rinker, who left over a month ago. Mr. and Mrs. Garber have another son[, Harry,] who is in New Guinea in the army.

Private Jimmy Rinker, who is with the marines at San Diego, called his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rinker, Monday night to tell them that he had met the train that Carl Garber was on when it arrived Monday.

Private Carl Garber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Garber, is one of few marines, who have passed an examination to go to North Carolina to attend a school to study Radar. Private Garber enlisted in the marines in June and left for San Diego last month.

Carl Garber of the marines arrived Saturday night to spend a furlough with is parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Garber. He has just finished his boot camp training at the marine corps base at San Diego and has been promoted to private first class. Wednesday he will leave for San Diego and from there for New River, N. C., where he will enter a radar school.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Garber received word from their son, Carl Garber, that he has been advanced to the rank of corporal in the marine corps at Memphis, Tenn. Cpl. Garber has been in the service since September and is attending school there.

Corporal Carl Garber son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Garber, has been transferred from Memphis, Tenn., to Jacksonville, Fla., where he will receive training as a marine aerial gunner. He has been in the service since August and received his "boot training" at the marine corps base at San Diego.

Carl Garber son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Garber, has been transferred to Edinton, N. C., and has been promoted to the rank of sergeant with the marines. He has been in the service about nine months.

Marine Sergeant Carl D. Garber arrived home Monday night from Edinton, N. C., for a visit with his parents, Mr, and Mrs. Charles Garber. Sgt. Garber is training for a gunner with the marine air corps and has been in the service for nearly a year. [He married Bernice Weyen on August 9.]

Marine Sgt. Carl Garber who has been stationed at Camp Lejeune, S. C. for the past year, has been transferred to Camp Pendleton, Calif. He is with the 74th replacement draft. Sgt. Garber has been in the service about two years.

Mrs. Carl Garber came Thursday to be with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Weyen. Her husband, Marine Sgt. Garber, was transferred to a replacement center at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Marine Sergeant Carl Garber phoned Saturday evening from Oceanside, Calif., the he was leaving the states on Sunday. He has been in the service two years. His wife, Bernice, is with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Weyen. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Garber are his parents.

October 4, 1945 Davenport Times-Tribune

Mrs. Carl Garber has word that her husband, a marine sergeant, has been transferred from Pearl Harbor to Guam. He entered the service in July 1943 and recently was sent to Hawaii. Sgt. Garber is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Garber.

BORN: to Marine Sergeant and Mrs. Carl Garber at the Sacred Heart hospital October 12, a son. He weighted 8 pounds and 7 ounces and has been named John David. Sgt. Garber is with the 6th marine division that recently landed in China.
